Patients Support Association (PSA) with funding from Friends of Malawi Association (FOMA) implemented a project called ‘Our Toilet Our Pride’ at Balaka District hospital. The project aimed at instilling dignity and promoting sanitation/hygiene practices at Balaka District Hospital especially to the guardians and patients at hospitals’ guardian shelter section. This was achieved through the construction of a single pit – two roomed latrines. Once the works were completed in July 2022, an official handover ceremony took place with the District Commissioner for Balaka as Guest of Honor. In his speech, the DC thanked PSA and FOMA for the efforts made to have the hospital assisted with this facility – the pit latrines were thereafter handed over and are in use.
